Our core feature is our data, collected by unbiased spirits lovers, and packaged into a simple spirit profile for users to find the best fit for them.
Our data collection process
One person’s perspective is great context, but it can’t be the only determinant of flavor intensity. And each person needs their own way to dial in their specific palate. OAKR was founded to create the most accurate data profile of spirits on the planet, starting with bourbon. We first built the most comprehensive data rating system with over 100 flavor notes, running from sweet to spicy and earthy. We then pair distiller submitted flavor data, with blind tastings from a panel of professionals and enthusiasts. Flavor data is then aggregated and scored into each category, to give users the most rounded level of flavor information available today.

Nothing can compare to trying a spirit for yourself and rating it. Everyone has subtle differences in their taste buds and preferences, its a challenge that both excites and drives us. With OAKR, now users have a standardized system to score flavor notes, and dial in their personal preferences. You get a personalized digital sommelier to keep tabs of your flavor data, and find the best spirits related to flavor preferences. It’s the first of its kind.
10 flavor categories for macro flavor shapes
Every spirit has unique data collected into a radar chart, ranging in intensity scores for 10 categories. These range in bourbon characteristics, to booziness, and flavor intensity in general flavor groups. The higher a category number, the more intense the flavor in that grouping. This can mean a higher intensity of specific flavor, or a higher concentration of unique flavors in a category. Spirit profiles are color coordinated based on the dominant flavor present. This gives users a quick snapshot into what a spirit will taste like, and if they should dig in further.
Detailed bourbon flavors with intensity
Each category within a spirit profile consists of dozens of detailed flavor notes. For example, within the “Sweet” category are multiple sweet flavors such as vanilla, caramel, marshmallow, sugar or even maple syrup. Our panel submits blind flavor data for the presence of each of these detailed notes, and their relative intensity. Scores are aggregated and compiled to give a master score across all flavors present. Detailed notes are listed and active within OAKR to ensure users can find the right flavors that they love.
